Observance ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. ET today at the Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, with events planned throughout the day.
United Airlines Flight 93 hijackers appeared to be headed for the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., but the passengers and crew members fought back, leading to the plane crashing into an empty field. All 33 passengers and seven crew members were killed.
