Explosion kills man, shuts down Interstate 290 for hours in west suburbs: FBI

WESTCHESTER, Ill. (WLS) — An explosion on Interstate 290 in Chicago’s west suburbs killed one person and stopped traffic for hours Thursday, the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said in a statement Friday.

Federal officials said the incident about 10 a.m. Thursday near Mannheim Road was not connected to any other event that day. Officials do not believe anyone else was involved.
